As most of you know my name is Helen Summers and I was in a serious accident on Tuesday in late November. There has been a lot of controversy going on about what my family wants, what the doctors want, and of course what I want. The fact that I was pregnant during the accident makes the situation a lot more difficult, but I think everyone knows what needs to be done. I am in a vegetative state, but I still know what is going on around me. No one can hear me or listen to me, but in my head I am screaming at them to just stop and unhook me. I lay here helplessly listening to them talk about what to do with me, as if I am not real. I signed my living will a few weeks ago and I expect everyone to follow it. I was very aware of everything that was going on in my life when I signed my will. Someone is waiting on me in heaven and I am ready to go, I just wish the doctors would leave me alone. .
I want everyone reading about my case to be very aware of exactly what happened before, during, and after the accident. John, my husband, and I were on our way home from a doctor visit when a drunk driver blind sided us. We both went into intensive care, but John was able to go home after a week. As for me, I went into a coma and was put on life-support. The life-support was the only thing that gave my family hope for my survival. My health deteriorated and the doctors kept holding on tighter and tighter to me. I was pregnant at the time of the accident, but my fetus survived the accident and my baby was very healthy, that is what I heard the Doctor say. While I laid there feeling like a vegetable I listened to Dr. Frasier say to my family, "There may come a time when we need to consider removing Helen from life support. Right now, there is no brain activity at all. And then, of course, there is a matter .
