Affermative Action

Supreme Court made a rather mixed ruling regarding affirmative action. On June 23, a 5-4 decision was made in support of the University of Michigan's law school's right to use race as a factor in admissions, while declaring the points (a.k.a. quota) system unconstitutional.
Because the affirmative action idea is relatively new to the political spectrum, there are many who don't know what it is and, hence don't understand the issues surrounding it. Basically, affirmative action is giving preferential treatment in College admissions, job hiring, etc. to minorities (but also those with disabilities and female applicants) in an effort to prevent discrimination.
Of course, affirmative action is pathetic; a waste of time and money, as well as part of the liberal agenda to bring America from the strong representative republic that it once was s into a weak socialistic utopia (a.k.a. communism).
The ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) and its liberal friends are dead wrong when they say that affirmative action somehow upholds equal rights.
Forty years ago, Martin Luther King, Jr. had a dream. He had a dream of equal rights for everyone. He did not say that some should have more rights than others because of the ethnicity into which they were born. He did not say that all are created equal but some are created more equal than others (Animal Farm, anyone?).
Colorado Governor Bill Owens got it right when he said, "I"m for affirmative action when it is defined as everyone gets to the starting line equally. And then you allow for merit to take over. But I"m against racial discrimination it's racial discrimination to say a child should get a head start because of their race.".
Dr. King said, however, that he had a dream that his four little children would one day live in a nation when they would not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.
Would someone please explain how affirmative action is judging people by the content of their character? But I"ll warn you beforehand that it's going to be a pretty difficult argument to keep up, because that perception is a bald-faced lie.
