My Choice: Not to do Drugs or Alcohol

 

            MY CHOICE: NOT TO DO DRUGS OR ALCOHOL.
             On the bus ride to school little Joey has to make a choice. Yesterday on the bus, Joey was offered a cigarette, not sure of what to say, he told the boys, "Maybe tomorrow." Well, it is tomorrow and now the boys are approaching him. What will he do now?.
             Many children and also adults are faced with choices like theses every day. Illegal substances are everywhere you look. The hardest thing is trying to avoid them. Everyone learns when they are young to "Just Say No," but not everyone remembers that when they are in a pressured situation that could change their life forever. We all have had choices since the day we were born, and we will have to live and die with those choices whether they are good or bad. .
             Drugs are abused throughout the United States. Everywhere you go drug deals are happening. You may not see them but they are there. Not just adults are dealing drugs, many young people are also getting involved in these illegal activities. Drug abuse is one of the most discouraged behaviors in our country. There are forty million illegal drug users in the world today, and America is the biggest market for drugs. There are more drug dealers in this country than there are dentists. Illegal drug abuse must be stopped. The crime rate will sky rocket if we let this behavior continue. Illegal drugs and their abusers are a plague to society for many different reasons. Drugs have very harmful effects on the users and the people the user interacts with. Drug abuse leads to all sorts of crimes. All users, addicts, and casual users, are careless and reckless when under the influence. Alcoholism is another problem.
             Alcoholism among young people is still increasing. Young people are not permitted to legally drink alcohol until they reach the age of twenty-one. Even though this drug is legal, many teenagers abuse it. More than 3,600 teens die a year from drinking and driving, and 85,000 are hurt.
