My best experience this year as an FMP was seeing the smiles as the freshman walked into the sportscenter and received their schedules and talked with friends that they haven't seen all summer. I was so happy to see the enthusiasm of the young students as they entered a whole new educational and social realm, and began a new chapter of their life. I was pleased again to see their vast confusion as they wandered the halls hopelessly, for it gave me the confidence that they really needed guidance, and that I would be one of the people that provided that necessary guidance. .
Next year, as I have gained much experience this year, I will choose specific games that the students find interesting so that as the year progresses they will be inclined to enjoy the advisory instead of having to go. I will utilize games that challenge the students, for I have found that they respond best to challenges and therefore pay more attention. .
If I could change just one aspect of the FMP program as a whole I believe that in addition to giving the freshman Friday off, I would give them every/every other Tuesday off. For I believe that as they go Monday thru Thursday every week it creates a monotonous atmosphere which causes a vast sentiment of being forced to go rather than enjoying to go. I believe Monday is important as we can check with them about the weekend, and any questions about the week. Also, Wednesday is right in the middle of the week, so the freshman often have questions about something that has happened or will happen in that week. In addition, Wednesday can be utilized as the counselor day as it is in the middle of the week. Thursday, often, is a day in which us as FMP's provide the freshmen a time to ask us scholastic questions and help in any subject they need. Therefore, I believe Tuesday is merely redundant and causes a negative sentiment among the freshmen.
