The Great Gatsby vs. Winter Dreams

" Another thing the two women shared is that they were both lusted over by a man and idolized by the man throughout his life. Gatsby thought of daisy as if there were nothing more important in the world than being with her. Dexter, although he may not have been as adamant as Gatsby, made it a goal of his, when he was young, to be with Judy Jones. When Dexter reunited with Judy as an adult it was said that, " It did not take him many hours to decide that he had wanted Judy Jones ever since he was a proud, desirous little boy." It seemed that both women had all they could ask for, they had money, love and beauty; however, both women were slightly peculiar. Daisy would often cry for the oddest reasons, for example, she began to sob because she thought that Gatsby's shirt were beautiful and expensive. Judy was a bit abnormal in that she would for no reason become quiet, making everyone at the table or in her presence awfully uncomfortable. Judy, just like Daisy, also seemed to be very emotional and both would cry over the slightest upsetting event. Though the two stories seem to be vastly similar, there are some qualities to the stories that differ completely. .
In order for a story to be distinctive, it must have its own qualities that separate it from the rest. Both The Great Gatsby and Winter Dreams differ in part because of the way each ends. At the end of The Great Gatsby an unsuspected killer kills Gatsby. This is the complete opposite of Winter Dreams because in the end Dexter is not killed and moves on with his life without Judy. Another difference between the two stories is that in the end Dexter gave up on Judy, Gatsby on the other hand never gave up on Daisy until the day he died. Even to the last night he was alive when Nick asked him how long he was going to stay and watch daisy Gatsby replied, " All night if necessary." The last difference between the two stories id that Dexter and Judy met when they were only children and Gatsby and Daisy met when they were young adults.
