The Morse Museum

The illuminated vision of Tiffany lamps and lighting from the Morse collection, was a spectacular show of color, light and twisted metal. Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848-1933) created a signature style of lighting that captured the American and European audience and now fascinates and charms people all over the world. Not only was he among the first to integrate the new invention of electric light into the architecture of the home, but he created objects of great beauty that continue to illuminate our lives. In this exhibition there are more than 40 Tiffany lamps assembled from Hugh and Jeannette McKeans" collection. This collection includes lamps from when there was little interest in Tiffany, to the popular Tiffany era. It includes prize-winning lead-glass windows and his 1893 chapel, but many examples of the lamps have contributed to Tiffany's enduring popularity. .
I chose the Tiffany lamp collection at the Morse Museum because I have just started my own collection of stained glass art. The collection I"m starting is of my own designs. I hope to start an extensive collection of my own one day. Going to this exhibit inspired me to do more with stained glass and gave me amazing ideas for new projects . I wanted to see the different tools that Tiffany used, come to find out he used the same things we still use to day.
My initial reaction was "these are nice vases." I wasn't too impressed at first to see a bunch of vases but once I got to the Tiffany stained glass windows and lamps I was intrigued. The colors were so vibrant, and the craftsmanship was irresistibly unique. The one thing that caught my eye was the Tiffany Chapel. I was in awe. It's one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. There are no words to describe the emotional feeling in that chapel.
The museum had great pamphlets in all of the rooms that described each piece. This was what I used for my historic brush-up on Louis Tiffany lamps and other works.
