The case for protection of national sovereignty

 

            It is because globalization destroys the 3rd world which it seeks to protect. It is because globalization in the long term will deplete all of our resources at a much faster rate then if we valued the sovereignty of diverse nations and it is because globalization in the long term will destroy the human race, I must say a firm "no- when asked the question: should globalization be valued above the sovereignty of nations. In today's presentation I would like to first like to define the conflicting forces of globalization and national sovereignty and then discuss in detail the reasons for why man kind should rise up against the forces of globalization or at least negate this evil process. Now let me discuss to you ladies and gentlemen what is globalization. According to Mokgethi B. G. Mothlabi the definition of globalization is the "sharing and spreading of ideas, values, and utilities to individuals and nations across the globe-. Note ladies and gentlemen that this is only a generic definition and there is more to globalization then there seems. I will address this in a moment. As for National Sovereignty, it is defined by Random House Dictionary as "a nation's freedom from external control- which is exactly what it is and of which a nation benefits. With this into to globalization and national sovereignty I will now present the arguments against Globalization and the reasons for National Sovereignty.
             First of all Globalization increases poverty for the third world. The advocates of globalization might try to convince you that globalization eradicates world poverty, while evidence proves exactly the opposite. The saying, "The rich get richer, the poor get poorer- applies perfectly to globalization. Even in the United States, inequality is increasing. According to Nancy Birdsall in a study for the United Nations, the income of the poorest 20 percent of households in this country has been steadily decreasing since 1970 while the income of the richest 20 percent has increased by 15 percent and that of the richest 1 percent by more than 100 percent.
