Social Stratification

The simplest of all kinds of societies live by hunting and gathering, the use of simple tools to hunt animals and gather vegetation. Hunting and gathering societies are built on close relationship like marriage or siblings. The families in this type of society obtain the food and then make sure every member has their share. Another different thing that people might do is this type of society is to also teach the children on their own. Everyone's lifestyle is very similar and is basically centered on getting the next meal. Each group of people, children, men, and women all had their own roles and both sexes were viewed as having about the same social importance. I think one good thing about this type of society is that these societies have few formal leaders like we have today like the president of the United States. In this type of society if there was a president he would not get any additional benefits and would have to work just as hard as everyone else. There was little social inequality during the days of hunting and gathering societies and was much more family centered than in today's society.
Post industrialism refers to the technology that supports an information-based economy. Postindustrial production is based on computers and other electronic devices that create, process, store, and apply information. During this time, the level of social inequality has increased drastically from the days of the hunting and gathering societies. .
According to the information supplied in the text, my opinion about the society we live in today has drastically changed. I am very family oriented and am completely for equality among all people. However, I do feel that complete equality would be very difficult, if not impossible to actually obtain today because of the way society has been built with all the different opinions and attitude. The more I read and understand the "hunting and gathering societies" the more it does sound like they would had the right idea.
