" Why is it that in the next chapter Nebuchadnezzar makes another idol if in only a few verses back he gives glory to God? Why does he not put actions to the glory he gave to the true God, but instead he returns to idol worship?.
Wherefore?.
This is a story of God's faithful and the rewards of being that kind of servant. It shows how God grants whatever is truly needed to those who follow after his will. Even though they were under the rule of a king that didn't follow the true God, they could still give glory to the God they served and do his work while under Nebuchadnezzar's rule. It also is a great of example of the wisdom that God gives us access to and how Daniel used it in a way pleasing to the Lord.
Chapter 31.
2 Kings 24-25.
Jehoiakim, reigned in Jerusalem eleven years. Nebuchadnezzar invaded his land and Jehoiakim became his vassal for three years until Jehoiakim rebelled. The Lord then sent people to destroy Judah. Jehoiakim's son Jehoiachin then succeeded him as king. He reigned in Jerusalem for three months. Nebuchadnezzar and his officials besieged Jerusalem and everyone surrendered to Nebuchadnezzar. He took Jehoiachin as a prisoner and exiled ten thousand other people, leaving only the poorest. Nebuchadnezzar then made Mattaniah, Jehoiachin's uncle, king and changed his name to Zedekiah. He reigned for eleven years and did evil in the eyes of the Lord and rebelled against the king of Babylon. In the ninth year of his reign, Nebuchadnezzar and his army marched against Jerusalem. In the eleventh year of his reign the city was in famine and the city wall was broken through. Zedekiah was captured and taken to Nebuchadnezzar. They then killed his sons before his eyes then poked out his eyes and put him in shackles. Nebuzaradan, commander of the imperial guard for Babylon, went to Jerusalem and set the temple on fire. He then took into exile everyone that was left in the city, but left the poorest people to work the land.
