Digital sounds are also used when an agent is shot. As agents take over the bodies of humans in the matrix, when they are shot at, the only thing that dies is the human's body. When they are shot however, an electric sound is made and green lighting surrounds the body, again showing the audience that it wasn't real. .
The sound effects are creatively designed for an engaging ambience that mesmerizes the audience. The bass line for the soundtrack is very deep and powerful, and this has a strong impact on high action parts of the film. When the helicopter crashes into the side of the building, there is silence apart from a scrapping sound, then a loud blast of fire, which creates an explosive atmosphere. The sound throughout the film, helps create the idea of a computer-generated world, and draws the audience into this.
Light and colour, both play a big part in the matrix as they are used to separate the two worlds from each other. Everything in the matrix is brown, black, olive colours that all blend in together as if everyone living in the matrix are not important. When the lady in the red dress catches Neo's eye, it is because she is wearing a colour that stands out, again stating that the matrix world is repetitive and boring. Everything seems tired and worn out in the matrix, and the light is quite low, which makes it look dirtier and darker. The matrix has a green tint to everything, just like computers do when you turn them on, which again reinforces that the matrix is not a real world. .
At the start of the film, the Warner Brothers symbol is in an electric green colour with static digital music to accompany it. As the symbol has changed from its usual golden colour, to a green, it gives the audience a clue as to what the genre of the film is going to be. .
The real world doesn't have this green tint, which makes it seem more realistic. The colours in this world are blues and grays and there is quite a lot of white light, which makes it look less digital and genuine.
