Images tell stories

Why is this important? Surely manipulation and personal perception occurs in all art, but photography is often more trusted than other forms of art. An art lover is less likely to believe a painting of cherubs or a Picasso painting is reality. Photographs are often used in newspapers, documentaries, not only for entertainment, this can cause problems. Photography can mislead viewer in believing non truth. This often occurs in the media. There may be a scandal of a sordid affair in the news and a picture is taken of the prosecuted bodies together. There have been countless times when celebrities or politicians have claimed that photographs in the tabloids and also the broadsheets have made innocent situations appear underhanded or unethical. More recently technological has enabled photographers to alter photographs, they are able to insert parts of one image on to others, and henceforth it is becoming increasingly difficult to trust images. This involves film footage, for example man landed on the moon. Many people became sceptical as to whether this incident ever happened.
Other ways in which images tell stories are through children's books or comic books. They are both series of pictures that make stories, but they also contain text in which the pictures and the story are further explained. It is shown by educational specialist that text associated with pictures is far easier to remember. If the comics and children's books had no words the story would be much more vague. Images mean different things to different people so the stories would change according to different people's imaginations. Each individual will relate it to his/her own experiences. The only one who will know the true story is the one that created the images. One of the most popular form of image is watching a film. When we watch a film we are aware that what is happening is not real. Films are sequences of pictures that tell a story, it's not a realistic account.
