Inconsistencies have been the cause of many organizational dilemmas, managers has to be consistent in their profession in order to maintain ethics and the respect of their employees. We must understand while discussing the ethical dilemmas in these case studies, that the dilemmas are personal decisions that each manager must make. They"re also dilemmas that were created by the organization in which they work though the decision they make can cause more perpetuating problems for their career and the company they work for than good.
I will start each case discussing the professional dilemma and then discuss a possible resolution to each case. These cases are generic in today's society, but not many are known to new managers in today's business world, but at one time in their career, each will face the same dilemmas. .
Joseph B. is the Fiscal Officer, who in charge of accounting at the Hartford Head Start Agency. He is also my supervisor. While the agency was in the process of downsizing and, restructuring he recognized the company had violated their ethics policy. Hartford has a policy of retaining temporary employees for no more than a year, with no chance of being hired in permanently. At that time, two temporary employees contracts were extended for six months past their one-year term, the extension was a violation of company policy. Joseph's co-worker felt he should address the issue, because everyone was doing the same thing. For a agency whose mission statement is to respect and value their staff, this created a dilemma for Joseph.
The agency retained two temporary employees for six months past their one-year contract, Joseph felt the agency should've hired two more temporary employees or hired permanent employees. In the past, the agency maintained this policy, but for them to violate it now for budget reasons indicate that they would violate other policies if this one weren't addressed.
