Macbeth comparison

             Macbeth Essay.
There are themes and emotions that are present in literature that can also be applied to reality. A theme that falls within this category is " Unchecked Ambition". Unchecked Ambition can be defined as Machiavellian and covetous, behavior. Through these actions, a person or party will attain some form of personal gain through devious manners. These actions can be cited in the infamous play Macbeth, by William Shakespeare. Within the play, Macbeth and Lady Macbeth attain the throne through contemptible actions, such as murder. Macbeth was the unrightfully heir to the throne, and gained it through unchecked ambition.
The theory of unchecked ambition can be applied to reality through an infamous incident, which occurred at the 1994 Olympic games in Lillehammer, Norway. Two of the world's best figure skaters Nancy Kerrigan, and Tonya Harding were teammates on the US Olympic team. Unbeknownst to the millions that followed their careers and rooted them on, that Tonya Harding had "unchecked ambitions" of her own. Tonya's Ex-husband Jeff Gillooly, had a plan to "club" Nancy in the knee after a training session, and therefore leave her unable to compete, improving Tonya's chances of medaling. Jeff and his accomplices did go through with the plan, but weeks before the actual Olympic games. This gave Nancy time to recover and come back to compete. The media-hype around this event built it up to be the biggest showdown of Good vs. Evil, on the biggest stage in the world. After Nancy's return, the broadcast of the games, was the 6th most watched broadcast in television history. Nancy was in first place going into the final round, and Tonya was in 10th. Nancy was beat out by the slimmest of margins by 16-year-old Oksana Bauil, leaving her with the silver medal and Tonya in 8th place. .
This devious plan can be related to Macbeth in that Jeff is much like Lady Macbeth, devising a plan, to attain something unrightfully.
