             A. African Americans need to leave Ebonics at home. Like it or not, this is America. The official language is English. There are grammatical rules to follow. Speaking Ebonics will not keep African Americans in the mainstream culture. Ebonics will deny Blacks the chance to compete for jobs and the chances to be successful in higher education. "Ebonics should not be considered a second language. It is important our African American heritage and the language of Ebonics illustrates terms of endearment, familiarity, and fun" (Pettigrew).
