In a world where riches rule, it is hard to define wealth as anything but the state of having an abundance of worldly estate. Socially, people who have more monetary .
possessions outshine those who do not, but why is that? Who defines wealth? What is it? F. A. Walker stipulates "Wealth comprises all articles of value and nothing else" and The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language,Fourth Edition defines wealth as "the state of being rich and affluent; having a plentiful supply of material goods and money".These perceptions are very different from my own view of the word wealth.              What makes me an expert on the definition of the word wealth? Well, I have formulated my opinion based on my own personal experiences as a human being. Just like many Americans, I have experienced the emotional ups and downs of having and not having money. As a child, I grew up in an average middle class family where I was denied plenty of things because of expense but never knew the hardships of poverty. My life took a quick transformation after my parents divorced. My mother, brother and I moved in with my grandmother with not a cent to our name. It was a hard and trying time in my life seeing my loved ones struggle and having to battle with not having money. But this is where I found myself. I found happiness in other places and with the help of my mother I realized that my treasures didn't have to cost a thing. My family, hope and love for them was my treasure and the values I have learned from them. To be wealthy you need to obtain all the things money can't buy. .
In The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language,Fourth Edition it fails to remind its reader that wealth can be fleeting. And for this reason, we shouldn't put such a high importance on assets.
