Twister: How Science is Used and Misused

The movie Twister is a good movie, but it has some flaws too. It deals with a lot of science, and also it sometimes misuses that science. Some say that the movie twister is basically a movie length advertisement for a car, because nothing happens to the car in the whole movie, even though many things happen to it that would usually ruin a brand new car. I think that it is a good movie, with a good plot, even though some things were incorrect.
In the beginning of the movie there is a scientific mistake. In the movie there is a huge tornado that flies over Jo's house just seconds before they get to a safe place. When they are in the house watching the television the man says that the tornado would definitely have to be an f-5. The only problem is, at the time when Jo was young they did not have had the Fujita scale. This is the first scientific mistake that the movie makes.
Like I said before, some people think that the movie was to help advertise a car. Well they have good reasoning because if what happened in the movie actually happened to someone, their car would get pretty banged up. One thing is it gets hit with a tricycle, and the windshield didn't even crack. They also went through an explosion and nothing happened to the car, and the people inside were not even sweating.
This movie was very interesting and had good effects for the tornadoes. I think they were smart in using noises like camel sounds, and pig squeals for them. I've never been in a tornado, but to me it sounds like the real thing, even if you can pick out some of the animal sounds.
All in all I learned a lot of science from this movie. I learned about the Fujita scale and the fact that tornadoes are very unpredictable. It is very hard to guess where its path is going to be. That is why it was so hard for them to get the Dorothy to work right and get the sensors into the air. Well the movie helped a lot and I learned from it, even though there were some slight mistakes.
