             The essay focuses on stressors in the 21st century, particularly on the causes of stress today. Treatment of stress is covered and how individuals are able, through Stress Management techniques, to control the effects which stressors have upon them as individuals and in domestic, social or professional settings.
             2) Stressors.
             Selye called the causes of stress "stressors" or "triggers." There are two kinds of stressors: external and internal (Posen, 1995). As examples, an external stressor could be someone on a busy motorway causing a hold up by driving in the centre lane. An internal stressor could be a lifestyle choice, spending too much at Christmas, worrying how to pay off the increased debt. A stressor is an event or action that causes a person to feel the effects of stress, either momentarily, medium or long-term. .

             3.1 How Stressors Have Changed From The Fifties to Modern Day.
             Post Second World War Britain in the fifties, gave stable employment to millions. With the advent of nationalisation of the major industries employment was stable and freely available. Britain's economy depended on a large manufacturing sector producing chemicals, iron, steel, ships and cars etc. Life as they say was good for millions. Lifestyles were very different from today. .
             The numbers of stressors have increased over the past 50 years through lifestyle and economic changes. These "new- modern day stressors are discussed below. .
             3.2 Modern Technology .
             Modern technology, such as computers and mobile phones, when functioning correctly, eases the stress and strains of life, but often contribute greatly to the levels of stress we endure.
