Comparison between The Crucible and The Japanese Internment

"" They felt that the Japanese living in America were still loyal to Japan. It was thought that Japan would then use these people to lodge an attack on the U.S. mainland. Internment was used to help quell these fears. So you can see that fear was an important basis for these two incidents upbringings but there were more reasons.
Along with fear there was greed. People in both situations used the time as a tool to get ahead of others in the world. In the Play, The Crucible, we see greed take shape in many different forms. One character, Abigail Williams, accuses a woman of witchcraft because she loves that woman's husband. "I know how you clutch my back behind your house and sweated like a stallion whenever I come near! Or did I dream that? It's she put me out, you cannot pretend it were you. I saw your face when she put me out, and you loved me then and you do now!- (Miller 22) This refers to how Abigail was sent from John Proctor's home and how Abigail blames Goody Proctor, John's wife, for this. Another man's greed takes over when he accuses people of witchcraft just to get their land. Then when the Japanese were removed from their homes, many of the white Americans stole their household goods and other property items. Also, their businesses were sold and their homes destroyed. "The excluded Japanese suffered enormous damages and losses, both material and intangible. The loss of farms, businesses, and homes, disruption of careers and professional lives and long-term loss of income, earnings and opportunity is in-calculable. In 1983 dollars, the loss was determined to fall between $810 million and $2 billion dollars."" (Hal Sterns 1) But through the years things had changed slightly.
The Crucible and the Japanese Internment do have their differences. In both situations courts were involved with the proceedings, the difference is the way that they were involved. The courts were used as a tool in Salem.
