Leadership in the Marine Corp

 

            For some Marines, leadership comes naturally.
             Everyone has different leadership styles. You can not teach someone a certain leadership style. .
             This is something that comes from within the individual Marine. Over the years I have been in the .
             Corps, I have emulated Marines who I thought had good leadership styles. It's sort of like a .
             recipe" for a good leader. Everyone has their secret ingredients to what they think would make a .
             better leader. My leadership style comes from the things that means the most to me: .
             dependability, loyalty, and integrity. .
             Dependability is important as a leader because, as a leader, Marines are depending on their .
             leader to make the right decision. Yes, in the time of peace, the decision a leader makes may not .
             have a great affect on his Marines. However, in the time of war, the decision that a leader makes .
             will not only affect the Marines, but, it will also affect their families. That is why it is important to .
             be dependable. Marines are trusting their leader to make the right decision as their .
             Staff NonCommissioned Officer. No, I am not saying a good leader has to be a Staff .
             NonCommissioned Officer, but Marines depend on their leader because they are loyal to him. .
             Loyalty goes hand and hand with dependability. As a good leader, he must first be .
             loyal to the Marine Corps, then loyal to his Marines. Being loyal to his Marines, his Marines .
             will in turn be loyal to him. We all know that all Marines will not be loyal. That has something to .
             do with a Marines background and the way the individual was raised. Knowing your Marines is .
             another part of being a good leader. However, for the most part, about 90 percent of them will .
             be loyal. Now, that we have identified that about 10 percent of the Marines will not be loyal, the .
             leadership trait that can eliminate this percentage is integrity. .
             As a Marine and as a leader, integrity is very important. Integrity is one of those things .
