That's what no one thought of when they passed by the gorgeous house on Brightston Avenue. It was a beautiful house with expensive brick and marble walls, huge glass windows and the most amazing landscaping. It was in a great neighborhood where neighbor greeted neighbor with "good morning" or a friendly smile, and grappled with small problems behind closed doors, no one could possibly imagine of what went on in the Gollen house. No one really knew of the horrors that went on in there.
A young couple lived there. Brian, around the age of 27 and his wife Mariana, also in her 20's. They've known each other since high school but only started seeing each other a few months ago when they met at their high school reunion. She realized then that he was the one-she thought wrong. .
No one saw much of them anyway. They weren't very social and didn't have much company stop by. Only close friends here and there on holidays. But not too often. They were a rather couple. They never went out or even opened their curtains once in a while to let some light in. But no one noticed their suspicious silence, everyone somehow managed to overlook that and not think of any negative thoughts. Mariana had a night job at a fashion magazine and Brian would leave for work a bit after her, but he was gone all day (no one knew where) and would come home an hour or so before Mariana would leave for work.
A few more days passed and no one thought of anything unusual, until recently some started noticing a hint of drunkenness when Brian would return home each day to Mariana. Again, everyone would think positive thoughts and convince themselves of nothing unusual and let it be.
Slam! went the door as Brian stepped into the house with anger. Mariana was preparing his dinner and as she placed the plate on the table her hand slightly trembled and for a split second she wanted to make a run for it, but she knew she couldn't.
