There is more than one contaminant in the ground water at George Air Force Base. The one of most concern is TCE (Trichloroethylene). In addition to TCE, Benzene and 1,2-dichloroethane were detected. All at levels that exceed State and Federal drinking water standards. In addition to those contaminants, Jet Fuel had been leaking into the ground since the opening of George Air Force Base.              The Liquid Fuel Distribution System consists of six areas. This system delivered jet fuel from several large above ground tanks, near the main gate, to the runway several miles away. Where it was then dispensed from seven fuel hydrants to the aircraft. The investigation of the area was completed in 1992 and determined that fuel had leaked along the runway, and is present in four separate ways beneath the flight line. One in the Vadose zone, two in the capillary fringe, three as floating free product, and four as being dissolved in the groundwater. .
