Stanley K (Character Portrate)

Tennessee Williams portrayed Stanley Kowalski in A Streetcar named desire as a beast. But not a beast of appearance, Tennessee Williams portrayed Stanley as a beast of no compassion.
His hidden hatred towards all women not only highlighted this latter in the play but the hatred towards all those who viewed him as Polish. As demonstrated very early in scenes 2 and 3.
Stanley represents the new, heterogeneous America to which Blanche doesn't belong. This does not only highlight Tennessee Williams ideas of Stanley but his view of Americans like Stanley in general. He used Blanche's almost relic like existence to highlight his views on the new American Male and Blanches defunct social hierarchy not only illustrates the new American Male's ideals but hatred towards all that extists especially women. Tennessee Williams sees Stanley as a social leveler and egalitarian, as he latter shows Stella in Scene Eight.
His appearance could fool those who do not know him. Until they stumble across any of his hidden problems which he has many of. Tennesse on several occassons established this, a good example was the first time Blanche saw Stanley. Balanche was overcome by how handsome he was until she saw him for what he really was. An eagotistic, manipulative, dominating manic depressive male. Tennessee made sure he made everyone clear about Stanley's body structure, one could say Stanley's body was a weapon of destruction waiting to be unleashed upon those afraid.
But underneath all that muscle Tennessee painted a man so mentally unstable that he did not clearly see right from wrong.
Stanley was not only of violent nature at heart but at mind. His military history also played a key role in his primitive ways of Thinking especially the fact he had no remorse towards those he had confict with.
Stanley's intense hatred of Blanche is motivated in part by the aristocratic past Blanche represents. He also sees her as untrustworthy and does not appreciate the way she attempts to fool him and his friends into thinking she is better than they are.
