Anna, the main character of the novel "When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit- by Judith Kerr, is far too busy with schoolwork and tobogganing, to do more than notice the posters of the man who has a moustache like Charlie Chaplin. But one day Anna's world is turned upside down when she and her brother Max are forced to begin new lives in Switzerland, France and England. The principal character is Anna who is a friendly, loving girl and very loyal to her family. The rest of the family include Anna's mother, "Mamma-, Anna's father, "Papa-, and Anna's brother Max.              The novel "When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit- by Julia Kerr is based on the author's experiences of a young (non-religious) Jewish girl. Anna's father is a prominent man. He is a syndicated editorialist in Germany and just about everything he writes is anti-Hitler. That means he is in trouble. When he is tipped off that he might be stripped of his passport, he makes a midnight run for the border and then onto Prague until the elections. After Hitler's success in the elections, Anna, her mother and brother pack up what they can carry on a train with them and head for Switzerland. They meet Anna's father who is now unemployed and will stay jobless for a period due to his controversial articles. But in fact, this is the only problem this "refugee- family faces. From this we can see that Anna's father is a very proud, opinionated man who would face unemployment and poverty for his beliefs.
Anna is nine years old at the beginning of the novel and eleven at the end. Anna is born into a wealthy family, due to her father being a well-known Jewish writer, so at times she appears slightly spoilt.
