Marriage: Fact or Fiction

The institution of marriage has long been the foundation and future for many relationships. Marriage has a long history dating back to some of the earliest religions. However, marriage is becoming an archaic practice with moral law approaching extinction. Marriage is seen from the male standpoint as a practice of submission and compromise. In many relationships, marriage is no longer a dream that many young couples strive for; it has simply become the so-called "next step" in today's common relationship. Marriage is becoming less common with the open approval of getting a divorce, the lack of interest in religion, and the media's acceptance of immoral relationships. Marriage is in danger of becoming and unpracticed tradition with today's promiscuous society.
One factor that endangers the institution of marriage is how easy and accepted it is to get a divorce. In the past, getting a divorce was a mutual decision between a married couple unhappy with their marriage situation, or the result of an unfaithful spouse. But presently, a divorce is an everyday practice that can be achieved within a short period of time. A divorce is no longer a mutual decision in many cases. One spouse can obtain a divorce without the other spouse even having knowledge of the process until it is too late to stop the separation. This process can tear families apart and force some individuals to give up their homes, money, and family. The satisfaction of staying with one person for the rest of one's life is becoming extremely rare. If divorce retains public acceptance, marriage will decline into becoming an antiquated practice that will soon become an archaic institution.
As the practice of religion is diminishing worldwide, the tradition of marriage and matrimony is becoming increasingly rare. The idea of marriage is in the foundation of many of today's oldest religions. But with religion being looked down upon in many places of the world, marriage also suffers.
