low wage work

Millions of people in this country work long, hard hours for extremely low wages. They give up time spent with their families just to serve others food, clean their offices and even their houses. They are considered "unskilled" laborers who never worked hard to break free from the poverty line. Different people have different outlooks on low-wage work and why it even exists. Companies benefit from low-wage work because they can spend less on employees which makes it easier for their companies to survive. On the other hand, the people who obtain these jobs dislike low-wage work, yet they know without these jobs they would have no income and could possibly be living on the streets.
Low-wage work is unfair at times. For instance, some people are born into poor families and their parents can not afford to send them to college to further their education. Because of that, they can not obtain high paying jobs that require strong knowledge in a particular field. College graduates, on average, make near $40,000 a year after their first year out of college. People who don't graduate and take jobs in the fast food industry or even some retail workers, make far less then $20,000 a year. These people work outlandish hours of strenuous work for wages under $10 and hour. Companies aren't afraid to do this to their employees because they know if they quit, their position can easily be filled in a matter of days. .
These people all have the potential to do anything they want when they are young, although it is harder for others to rise to the occasion because of the way they were raised or the environment they grew up in. If everyone was forced to go to school when they were younger less and less people would be working for low-wages. But in society not everyone is equal and it is up to the individual to make what they want of themselves and with no education they can not expect to do much. There is a vicious cycle of poverty that makes things like this hard for poor people.
