A leader is someone who will take on a role of total responsibility for a situation. A good leader can tolerate some criticism, as well as some compromise. There are many leaders and types of leaders that are encountered everyday. There are Civil Rights leaders who fight for the freedom and justice of themselves and others, Religious leaders who lead by means of peace and unity, Political leaders who use their persuasive skills in order to win the consent of their people, and many other leaders who may receive less recognition, but are certainly capable of achieving similar goals. These are all groups of people who, in my opinion, encompass the idea of what a leader is.
There are leaders who dare to dream and speak out against what they think is wrong; leaders who are very committed to their goals and who are willing to accept any challenge that is thrown their way. They are Civil Rights Leaders. Civil Rights Leaders and activists speak out and partake in various defiant acts to prove a point. These people are relentless and will do whatever it takes to make an impact and influence society to see things as they do. They have never-ending hope and confidence in their dreams and have done many things to change the ways of the world.
One of the greatest Civil Rights Leaders of all time was Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. King was the leader of a mass struggle for racial equality that doomed segregation and changed America forever. King was a prominent speaker and activist and is widely considered to be the father of the modern civil rights movement. King was committed to holding non-violent protests, which did not always sit well with others involved in the civil rights movement, who argued for more aggressive tactics. Despite the disapproval he received from others, King was relentless and stuck to his ways of non-violence. In 1963 he organized the March on Washington, a peaceful gathering of more than 200,00 people, to protest segregation.
