Contributions of The Enlighten

 

             The effects of the Enlightenment remain strong in Western Culture today. There are many individuals that have paved the way for future writers, scientists and philosophers. Their contributions to science, music, and philosophy have changed the world for the better. Many new ideas and discoveries came from this time period. The Enlightenment thinkers gave everyone a new way of thinking and opened doors to endless possibilities. They enabled people to break away from the beliefs, so carelessly given to them, and start to think for themselves. .
             There are many Enlightenment thinkers who have contributed greatly to science. One of them is Johannes Kepler. Using math to describe his beliefs, he discovered that the earth revolved around the sun in an elliptical orbit. Also, during this time, many discoveries were made about diseases and health. A man named Edward Jenner found a vaccine for small pocks. Carolus Linnaeus was the scientist who created Binomenal Nomenclature. This is a way of characterizing living things that we continue to use today.
             Many prominent musicians arose from the Enlightenment. These musicians changed the style of music, and inspired other musicians. Friedrich Handel gave up studying law for music. He wrote operas and his most famous piece, The Masiah. Johann Sebastian Bach was a religious German, his music was very unique and people are still listening to it today, even thought it was written over 300 years ago.
             There were many philosophical ideals and developments during the Enlightenment. One of the most distinguished and important of these thinkers was Mary Wollstonecraft. She was so important because she created the first feminist document. She fought for women's rights. In her, A Vindication of Women's Rights she argues for the equality of women, who at this time were treated harshly treated unjustly. The Encyclopedia is another creation that came from the Enlightenment.
