Cia information leak

Recently, the name Valerie Plame has been mentioned by certain media groups as having been a CIA operative for the United States government. She is the wife of the former US ambassador and has been critical in the Bush administration's intelligence on Iraq. The article saying that Plame was a CIA was in Chicago sun-times. If a federal employee is charged for causing this leak it could result in ten years jail time or as much as $500,000 in fines. This crime is being called a dastardly attack by almost all associated with the Bush administration. Bush insists that no one in his cabinet would do such a thing. On the other hand Valerie Plame's husband Joe Wilson claims that the White House is responsible for the leak. .
The president believes that leaking classified information is a very serious matter and it should be pursued to the fullest extent. The Justice Department has been asked to take on the job of investigating the leak. White House press secretary Scott McClellan said that if anybody at the White House purposely leaked Plame's name they will be pursued to the fullest extent and fired. He also said, "No one was authorized to do this. That is simply not the way this White House operates and if someone leaked classified information it is a very serious matter." It seems very clear that the White House is not responsible for the press leak. Or maybe the person responsible for it wanted retribution for Joe Wilson's so called error in saying that Iraq has wanted to buy Uranium for Africa.
Joe Wilson said that he believes the person who broke his wife's cover was Karl Rove, Bush's senior adviser and political strategist. He also says that if Rove was not the one who broke her cover, then he knew of the leak going on and did nothing to stop it. Scott McClellan said that he spoke with Rove on Joe Wilson's accusation and feels confident about Rove. Wilson quoted, "The idea, it seemed to me, in going after me and then later making these allegations about my wife, was clearly designed to keep others from stepping forward.
