Arrested workers complain of being forced to work every night of the year for US $ 350-400 a week with no statutory benefits. By comparing to a unionized grocery store, average an employee start at 10 dollar an hour. Employees work in unionized grocery store, they all receive the same wage which is considering a "living wage" by many organization and experts. Wal- Mart claimed that seventy percent of its employees hold full time work. This would be impressive; however, the average full time employee makes only fifteen thousand dollars a year. It also defines full time as twenty-eight hours a week. The average "full time" Wal-Mart employee is bringing home just over eleven thousand dollars a year. While paying low wages Wal-Mart attempts to make their employees believe they really care by providing special services most companies do not. From the article Economic Affair Bureau Nov /Dec 2002, it clams Wal-Mart workers in 28 states have accused the company of forcing them to work "off the clock" without pay to which they are entitled by law and by right. Wal-Mart supervisors make employees work, sometimes for hours, before clocking in, work through scheduled breaks, and continue working after punching out at night. In 2000, the company settled a class-action suit, covering nearly 70,000 Colorado workers who had been forced to work off the clock, for $50 million. Almost 200,000 Texas workers, alleges that Wal-Mart robbed them of over $150 million in wages by forcing them to work, unpaid, through their breaks. An internal audit of about 25000 employees at Wal Mart found thousands of labour violations at US retailer. More than 60 000 cases, workers missed their breaks, and 16 000 cases miss their meal time. Workers have been locked in to stores after hours to work late into the night and early morning on special displays, but were not paid overtime. In 2000, Texas Wal- Mart meat cutter voted to join the United Food and Commercial worker union (UFCW).
