New college freshmen are introduced to a new world when they go off to college, filled with freedoms and new opportunities that entice them and force them to make many decisions that can influence them in many different ways. One of those decisions is whether they should partake in this illegal event. Have you ever noticed how hard it is to find a college student that doesn't drink? This statement holds true because the pressure on a single person to drink is so high do to their peers around them. This leads to the person usually "folding" or giving into the pressure and taking part in the goings-on. Drinking in college usually leads to negative events, and is the sole reason why a person partakes in these "unwanted actions." These harmful actions consist of date rape or agreeing to participate in, usually, unwanted sexual activity, committing illegal actions, and/or becoming extremely sick due to drinking too much in a short period of time (binge drinking). .
Drinking in college has always been a part of the social life that surrounds going away to school, and will probably never seize to exist. On average 1 in 10 male college students consume 21 beers or more on a weekly basis according to The Century Council (a leading research program for the consumption of alcohol amongst college students). This binge drinking, that consumes many college students can lead to many bad experiences that unfortunately the student goes through, because of their drinking habits. Being drunk severally lowers your inhibitions and interferes with decision-making, which makes for some potentially dangerous sexual situations. This is overwhelmingly true for females compared to males. According to factsontap.org females have lower levels of dehydrogenase, an enzyme that helps break down alcohol than males. This is why females get drunk quicker and takes less alcohol to do so. This creates a serious dilemma for females because their decision making is not what it should be, so unwanted sexual activity could result from being drunk.
