Have you ever had to do an assignment in school that you didn't want to do but actually enjoyed. For me it was reading The Crucible. When I heard about the plot, I thought to myself "man is this going to be boring." Boy was I wrong. The Characters actually had some depth to them. The one character that really caught my eye however was John Proctor. He is the most developed of all the Characters because his traits were diverse. John Proctor, in a nut shell is obsequious, satiric, and forthright.
You can tell John Proctor loves his wife and is sorry for what he had done in the past because he tries to be obsequious. For example he says, "I mean to please you, Elizabeth." Ever since he committed adultery you can tell he has been trying hard to make it up to her. He tries to compliment her for everything. In addition he says "I have made a bell of honor! I have rung the doom of my good name--you will believe me Mr.Danforth. My wife is innocent except she knew a whore when she saw one." He is always defending his wife, and he makes sure that everybody knows she's a good person. He is also showing his weak side by saying that he is wrong and his poor wife is right. Furthermore, "Spite only keeps me silent. It is hard to give a lie to dogs. I would have you forgiveness, Elizabeth. Of all things, he wants to know what his wife wants him to do and if she will be able to get over everything he has done to her. It's a life or death situation and yet he just wants her to be content with him. In some cases it feels like he may go overboard but at least she knows he's trying .
John Proctor and Bradley Sharp have a lot in common in the since that they can both be extremely satiric. For example, "I have trouble enough without--I come five mile to hear him preach only hellfire and bloody damnation. For one he is making fun of the way Parris preaches. He is clearly saying that it isn't worth going a distance to church to hear negative things.
