The Pearl

John Steinbeck grew up in Salinas California. Which encouraged him to write the way he does. He writes about the common man and his struggles in life. He won a Nobel Prize, for his writing technique. Two books will be included in this essay The pearl, and Of Mice and Men. This essay will cover some of the good and bad of human's animal instinct taking over in certain situations. .
A positive aspect of reverting to animal instinct is that they have a keen sense of awareness when in jeopardy. In The Pearl Kino and his family are running from the trackers. When the trackers find him he warily approaches them like fox and kills them. On the opposite and the trackers use there animalistic traits to scrutinize Kino's trail, find, and kill his baby. In of Mice and Men Lennie and George hide in the bushes, Thanks to the animal in them they hide without being caught. We all have the ability to use are animal instincts to help us out in a time of need. There are so many other examples in these stories this should give you an idea.
Next, The loss to think clearly scares people and they loose their ability to think clearly and act like an animal. Kino, for example, in The Pearl bumps into a man one night and out of fear turns into an animal, he can not think about what he is doing and the result was him killing a man. In Of Mice and Men, Lennie on a regular basis is not too adroit, and is so clumsy he can't think like a human and acts like an animal. It is almost like he is a bear so clumsy and oblivious to the world. Also, when Lennie kills Curley's wife. The loss to think clearly in that situation makes him hold to her hair tighter, he never meant to but the animal in him took over. There are so many situations I know of where we do that to, it is a very scary thing but I think it is almost uncontrollable. .
Last of all, when a man becomes like an animal he is seen as unkempt, or stupid.
