             Melinda Sothern, creator of the Trim Kids Diet, is a pediatrician and specials in nutrition. She believes that her diet works because it is not a crash diet to get skinny fast, it is all about losing weight and maintaining a healthy lifestyle to keep it off for life (Sothern, 2001).
             Sothern is convinced that her diet works because it is so unique. The format is laid out step-by-step in her book, so you cannot make a mistake. Every goal is achievable, the child is not thrown into a whole new routine overnight, it slowly becomes the way the child and their whole family live. The daily activity that is a must in this diet is not aerobics routines or having to run everyday, they are things that all kids like anyway; going to a park and playing on the toys, playing a baseball game, or swimming for an extended amount of time. The kids have fun and so they don't realize what they are on is a "diet-. (Southern, 2001).
             IV. GOOD POINTS ABOUT THE DIET.
             This diet is great for a family that can work together and support each other. It brings everyone together to achieve a higher level of nutrition and fitness not just the overweight child. This makes it seem like it is a lifestyle change, not a punishment for the child because he/she is "fat-. Many children don't understand that a diet is good for them, they see it as a punishment especially when they are the only one that has to adhere to the new rules about food. This discourages them and makes them feel badly about the people they are. But with Trim Kids, everyone is in on it and the child feels included rather than excluded and I think that in itself is a huge reason why this diet could be so successful.
