For example, in 2003, China is still a communist nation. However, it is not the socially oppressive place that is was in 1950. The spread of free trade there has produced profound effects on the economy which is now largely capitalistic. In fact, according to the National Issues Seminar booklet, China exports more than 250 dollars a year in products that range from electronics to machinery and clothing. The vast majority of these exports are produced by global corporations. Numbers like these cannot be ignored by traditional governments, and in China they have resulted in many more freedoms for citizens both economic and political. According to the Chinese newspaper, Peoples Daily, in 2001 Li Rongrong the minister in charge of the State Economic and Trade Commission pledged increased support for the development of private businesses including the creation of a government credit system that would make it easier for private businesses to obtain loans (http://fpeng.peopledaily.com.cn/200103/11/eng20010311_64679.html). .
             Peace is another benefit of free trade. Respect and peace are naturally sustained between nations that are economically reliant on each other for the free trade of products, resources, and ideas.
