They sacrificed their lives while crashing into the Twin Towers. The driver acquired many injuries and was hospitalized while driving into their building. Yet, instead of responding with anger, the Muslims prayed for him and later visited him to offer their forgiveness. .
Muslim Americans justifiably consider themselves fully American. In a sermon at the Islamic Society of San Francisco the sermon was, "We are standing strong behind Americans because we are Americans ourselves" (Coming Together, 2). The attack against New York was an attack against the security of all Americans, despite religion or race, and they have all been praying and helping our nation to get back on her feet. Mosques have been holding blood drives and outreach programs to show their patriotic support. Yet despite their efforts, many Muslims still live in fear. "Other religions might be strengthened by this, but we have become defensive and scared" ("Coming Together", 2) said Shahriar Ahmed. An Islamic school was threatened with a bomb threat since the attack. The Pope pleaded that the United States does not declare war against Islam, but to construct a world without violence. He said, "We must not let what happened lead to a deepening of divisions. Religion must never be used as a reason for conflict" (Owen, 1). .
Religious people need to be careful about how they react to the attacks. "We, the people of faith, Jews, Christian and Muslim, need to unite to further what is good, what is beautiful and what is true. If we don't, the world is most certainly lost" (Lewis, Cardenas, 2). In times of crisis, many people turn to God, and therefore turn to people who know how to reach Him. Most believe that there is no doubt that the United States must take action against terrorists in order to protect its people. If they remain unpunished, they are left free to act out such an act again, putting the lives of the innocent in great danger.
