UPS PAS

The PAS is a system which provides the preload to have higher quality loads and provide better service to our customers. The PAS will lead to an increase in productivity due to its ease in assigning packages to package cars.
The PAS takes every package entering the hub and applies a smart label, or PAL label to the package. This label lists all of the necessary information needed to ensure that the package is loaded in its proper location. This system will eliminate the use of load charts, skilled positions, recycles, and the dependency of relying on loaders for stop counts. The following recommendations are presented to Management of United Parcel Services for the PAS system:.
             1. PAS will not happen overnight. It will take months before PAS is running to its full capabilities. Management teams and employees need to be patient with the system in order for it to take effect. .
             2. Every Center must learn to trust their management team and supervisors. The management teams and the employees are what make this system happen. If a belt supervisor makes a wrong decision, simply ask why the mistake was made and correct them. .
             3. Every employee may not adjust to change in the same way; some may take longer than others. When a mistake is made by a preloader, talk with the employee in a sit down conversation. Some employees have a more difficult time than others, even if it all seems to be easier.
The conclusions and recommendations are based on experience obtained in the work place at the Wilkes-Barre Center. Secondary resources include the internet via Inside UPS and personal comments and experience from John Romeo, PAS team leader.
PRELOAD ASSIST SYSTEM-IMPROVING THE WORLD OF BUSINESS.
What Is the Preload Assist System?.
The Preload Assist System enables simplification of the preload operations by providing a handling instruction for every package a preloader handles. The handling instruction indicates the package car as well as the load position within the car for loading the package.
