Women's Rights


            We, as women, especially those of us who live in liberal parts of the world, often .
             take for granted the rights and benefits which we have. We forget that in other times, .
             women were not considered to be equal to their male counterparts; they were considered .
             to be but "helpers" to the men with whom they lived. So how did society's ethics .
             and values come to the present state where women in America supposedly have the same .
             rights as men do? Where we can vote, work outside of the home, and be educated? .
             Though we do not often consider it, we owe much of these everyday freedoms to women .
             of the past, who struggled and pushed for equal rights and recognition. Their .
             determination helped us gain increased education, economic status, and political rights, .
             among other things.
             Throughout history women, men, and children have been brought up in the church .
             and countless live how the church tells them to live. Even if this meant that women did .
             not have jobs outside of the house because God said so. There are five lies that the church .
             told women and each one makes less sense then the next: .
             * "God created women as inferior, destined to serve their husbands".
             * "A man needs to "cover" a woman in her ministry activities" .
             * "Women can't be fulfilled or spiritually effective without a husband or children." .
             * "Women should never work outside the home." .
             * "Women must obediently submit to their husbands in all situations" .
             So with women being feed theses lie's all their life they are led to believe that .
             they can do nothing more than raise children and live a life that the church wants them to. .
             As time went on the women began to work in factories with very little pay and numerous .
             hours a week. As soon as the pay went up the hours dropped and the women went on .
             strike. This proved that women were capable of organizing and relentless in achieving .
             labor reforms in one day. Women were never allowed the jobs that men had, but today a .
