Junction Boys- Bear Bryant Charachter sketch

            Bear Bryant's role in this book is a hard nosed football coach in charge of coaching the Texas A&M Aggies. It's 1954 and Bryant just lost his job as Kentucky's head coach to a man who in his way of thinking betrayed him. Bryant takes his rag tag gang of players to a modest place called Junction, Texas. In Junction they are in their worst drought in nearly a decade. Despite the weather, goat heads, sandspurs, and overall climate the Bear is determined to turn his team into tough kids and overall winners. Bryant believes that winning is not judge by the amount of games you win but by the effort your team puts out whenever they set foot on a football field.
             Bear Bryant was a rather huge man. He had thick brown hair, dark brown eyes, and a face even a serial killer would fear. He rarely ever smiled and was most likely the toughest football coach ever to live or one of them. He was extremely determined and articulate. He always went in to every game wanting to win. He would practice when he was younger giving speeches and letting all his keywords sink in to his audience. He believed that anyone and any team could be winners no matter how high their level of talent or lack of determination. He believed he could turn anyone into winners. He once said "I can reach a kid with no athletic ability as long as he doesn't know it." People were very controversial about Bear. Some say he was a mean man who was inhuman. Others say he was the best thing to ever happen to football. I believe he was a great man.
             To me Bear Bryant was one of those people who didn't take anything from anybody and would do anything to win. When I read the book the Junction Boys by Jim Dent every chapter started with a quote. All of his quotes were very deep and really inspired me to try harder at everything in my life. Even though Bryant was a tough man who withheld water and wasn't the nicest on the football field he was a great man and an excellent football coach.
