Espianoge or Freedom of Press

The article is stating that the California Superior Court Justices overturned the earlier appeal to keep the encryption code for DVD's off the Internet. The justices believe that the code is covered by the trade secret rights and therefore not entitled to the free speech amendment of the constitution. They further state that anyone who posts that type of code is stealing trade secrets from companies. Many of the bigger companies like Boeing Co., Ford Motor Co. and AOL Time Warner Inc. sided with the DVD association. The case was centered around a guy who was just trying to let people watch DVD's on their computers. He wasn't trying to steal trade secrets or make any money.
This article is extremely important because it shows that the giant corporations are taking over. They find any and every way to make more money than make it illegal for anyone to do it the same way. I thought free enterprise was still a founding concept for this country but this article shows it differently. It states that a man, who was not trying to make any money whatsoever, cant post something that might possibly infringe on the income of a multi-billion dollar company. The fact that companies like Boeing Co., Ford Motor Co. and AOL Time Warner Inc. went in and put pressure on the justices to side with the DVD association just proves that each day the little guy's rights are being taken away.
This article tells us that the way politics works can be boiled down to one simple golden rule: He who has the gold, makes the rules. When corporations get to ignore the constitution set down by the people who made this country, it makes our current political system completely different than what most people believe it to be. I believe that the voice of the people should prevail in situations like this where ALL people will be affected not just a few. However, this article proves that the decision of a couple of people who are appointed, not elected, get to decide what's best for all of us.
