Ginie

             Ginie.
Ginie is a girl who was found in Los Angeles, in 1970. She lived 10 years of her life in isolation, she had no human contact, because she was completely locked in her room.
Her main problem was that she could not talk, she even had strange human walk and some inhuman characteristics; in other words, she was not able to vocalize or act like a normal child.
Once Ginie was found, she was taken to a hospital where not only social workers but also psychologists and doctors try to help her. All of these people work with her in order to make her begin to talk. Ginie began to explore a new environment. She was expose to many medical tests; for instance, when she was sleeping doctors were able to find abnormal wave patters in her brain.
From her studies doctors and psychologists concluded that she was able to learn; however, she was never able to communicate like a normal child.
For example, Ginie could read simple words, and she used past tense to tell past events. Moreover, she had words to communicate emotions like sadness, happiness, anger etc., but she could not put words in a correct grammatical order.
On the other hand, specialists also concluded that she was not mentally retarded as her parents stated. .
In my personal opinion, I think that at the beginning when Ginie was found, there were many people who were really interested in helping her without trying to exploit her case; but as the time went by this case became a case of exploitation. Why?.
Because not only power was involved but also economic interests among all the people who was carrying her investigation, her parents and some institutions for instance.
There have been other cases of feral children who were found like for example, Victor who we already watched in this video; kaspar who was a boy, and kamala another feral girl. In all these cases, dealing with language, their acquisition varied depending on each specific case but in general and as in an article about feral children (taken from internet) states: " Their ability to learn language on their return to human society is very varied.
