Social and political Implications of the 17th century

King Phillip's war took place in New England from 1675- 1676. It was a fierce war between the Algonquians and the English people caused by the spread of settlements. The Algonquian and English lived among each other in tense peace, which was broken at the execution of three Wampanoag men. Metacomet prepared his Wampanoag men for war, and set an alliance with the Narragansetts. The New England colonies as well as New York also prepared for war, but only hoped for more territory. They fought well, but the Originals were defeated in August of 1676. King Phillip's war caused the tensions that already existed between the English and the Originals to tighten. But the Originals didn't try to have another organized revolt after this war, because of its large number of tragedies. The Iroquois refused to assist Metacomet in the war, but only for personal gain. They formed an alliance with New York forming the Covenant Chain. The Iroquois wanted to defeat any other tribes in trading, and New York wanted control over all colonies. This caused the Iroquois to rise in the trading systems. But the worst that came from this war was the devestation.
             2. Bacon's Rebellion, also taking place in New England from 1675- 1676, was another war between the English and Originals, but in the Chesapeake. Nathaniel Bacon led destructive raids in "75, killing a number of Originals. When William Berkeley tried to conceal his raids, it only caused more anger; leading to Bacon's burning of Jamestown. This lead to Nathaniel Bacon being the "General of Virginia". While he was in this status, he influenced armed taking of the Original's land, calling them a mere "problem". It caused the settlers to be more land hungry and readied them to attack the Originals and steal their land. It also caused the planters to move towards slave labor and move away from servants, in fear of turmoil.
             3. In the Glorious Revolution (in the late 1680's), James II became the King of England.
