Dear Mr Henshaw

Henshaw", by Beverly Cleary was such a great book, I couldn't resist reading it. You will enjoy reading it because it is about a boy and an author who write constantly to each other.
The setting of this story is in Pacific Grove, California. He writes all his stories in his room. His school is also a main setting. This takes place in the present.
Leigh Botts is one of the main characters. He is a creative boy because he won honorable mention in a writing contest and keeps a journal. He is also very smart because he created and put together an alarm for his lunch box. He is also lonely and sad because his mother and father are divorced and won't get back together. He is also sad because he doesn't see his dad or dog in person. One other main character is Mr. Henshaw. He is an author Leigh started writing to since 2nd grade. He is humorous and kind.
Leigh has many problems, one of which is his mother and father being divorced. The solution to this is that he tried to get his parents back together. The second problem is he moves and has to go to a new school. The solution is that he meets Mr. Friendly, the school custodian. The third problem he faced was people kept steeling his lunch. The solution is that he makes a burglar alarm for his lunch box. Everyone wants one and he became popular for a few weeks. The fourth problem is that Leigh needs a story for the young writers contest. The solution is that he writes "A Day on Dads Rig". He won honorable mention. The fifth problem is that his dad lost his dog, Bandit. The solution for this is he told his dad to call on his C.B. radio and ask if anyone saw him. The sixth problem is Leigh's parents are still divorced. The solution for this problem is Leigh learned to accept it and his dad will keep in touch. .
I would recommend this book to someone who likes to read about what a person writes and thinks. I would give it a 3 out of 5, but once you pick it up you won't want to put it down.
