Definitons of Ethics,Law and Morality


            
            
             Derived from Greek ethos'-custom, usage or character.
            
             Can be defined as philosophical study of morals.
            
             Seems to pertain to individual character of a person.
             "morals--comes from Latin mores'=custom or usage .
             "moral--what is good or right.
             "immoral--what is bad or wrong.
             Characteristics of good, bad, right, wrong'.
             a.)'Good' or right'-involve pleasure, happiness and excellence that lead to harmony and creativity.
             b)'Bad' or wrong'-involve pain, unhappiness and lack of excellence that lead to disharmony and lack of creativity.
             non moral'-out of the scope of morality altogether. E.g.: inanimate objects.
             amoral'-having no moral sense or being indifferent to right of wrong. These are human beings who despite moral education, have remained become amoral.
             Tend to be found among certain criminal types who don't seem to realize they had done anything wrong.
             Tend not to have any remorse, regret or concern for what they have done.
             MORALITY.
             Comes from the Latin morals' meaning customs or manners.
             Is a social instrument that guides instruments and groups in their daily lives .It helps people behave rationally.
             Deals basically with human relationships, how humans treat other beings to promote mutual welfare, growth, creativity and meaning in striving for good over bad and right over wrong.
             An external element-imposed on the individual-cultivated until it becomes a habit.
             These are 4 main aspects related to the application of morality:.
             a.Religion morality-concerned with human beings in relationship to the supernatural being(s).
             b.Morality and Nature-concerned with human beings in relationship to nature.
             c.Individual morality-concerned with human beings in relationship with themselves.
             d.Social morality-concerned with human beings in relationship to other human beings. This is the most important category of all.
             Manners/Etiquette-not all human behavior can be classified as moral or immoral. Some of it non moral ,or social, having to do with manners or etiquette, which is essentially a matter of taste rather than right or wrong.
