CARICOM's mission statement is as follows: "To provide dynamic leadership and service in pursuit of regional integration through the timely development and operation of Community structures and programs which provide for effective decision-making and implementation, create and strengthen linkages among Governments, Organizations and people of the Caribbean Community and which improve the quality of life and contribute to the attainment of a viable and sustainable Community
"" CARICOM has three major objectives, the first being economic cooperation of the Member States through the Caribbean Common Market. This objective has its aims being a) to improve the standards of living and work, b) full employment of labor and other factors of production, c) accelerated coordinated and sustained economic development and convergence, d) expansion of trade and economic relations with third state, e) enhanced levels of international competitiveness, f) organization for increased production and productivity, g) the achievement of a greater measure of economic independence and effectiveness of its Member States dealing with third states, group of states and entities of any description. .
The other objectives are to enhance coordination of Member Sates foreign policies and to enhance functional cooperation including i) more efficient operation of common services and activities for the benefit of its peoples, ii) promotion of greater understanding among its peoples and the advancement of their social, cultural, and technological development, and iii) activities in areas such as health, education, transportation, and telecommunications. .
CARICOM's tasks are carried out and its goals area achieved because of its structure which include organs, institutions, and associate institutions. CARICOM's principal organs are the Conference Heads of Government known as the Conference and The Community Council o f Members known as the Council.
