The Crucible: Abby Williams Character Sketch

Abigail Williams Comes off as this sweet little innocent girl. In the beginning of the play she tells her uncle that they were just dancing in the forest for sport. They meant nothing by it and they didn't know it was going to cause so much trouble. He had no idea about the love spells that all the girls were doing. As far as he knew they were just dancing. .
As the play goes on we start to see more and more what Abby's personality is like. You can start to see how mean and how much of a power trip she is on such as telling the girl if they say any thing about the love spells she is going to go to there house in the middle of the night and kill them. She is also a liar. She lies about just dancing for fun. .
Abby is also in love with John Proctor. The Girls know this but everyone else in the town does not know about it. She wants John's wife, Elizabeth Proctor, dead. When she does her love spell, she also does a spell to kill Elizabeth. Abby then gets one of Goody Proctors "poppets" and sticks a needle in its stomach. Then Abby shows up at court with the "poppet" and a needle in her own stomach accusing Goody Proctor of doing this to her.
Finally towards the end of the play she starts going really nutty. When she is in court she claims she sees a little bird sent by the devil himself. The court starts to worry. She tries telling them that she has turned back to god and wants no more with the devil but no one believes her. The only way to make things right they think is to hang her.
Abigail Williams isn't really a nice, kind, sweet, loving girl that everyone thinks she is. All she wanted was John Proctor for her. She was a very selfish little girl. She may have been sweet and innocent before all the witch craft stuff started going on, but what we see of her in the play is not so nice.
