Rape Prevention

More than 80 percent of rapes occur between people who know each other (http://rainn. This could be violence done by an acquaintance or even by a family member. Date rape and acquaintance rape happens more often than people think because the person raped usually trusts their rapist. But sometimes you don't know whom you can trust, and there are many things a person should know and practice in order to keep themselves safe. .
Date rape makes up 60 percent of rapes (http://rainn.org/). One-third of young adults between the ages of 16 and 24 have reported that they were in at least one abusive dating situation (http://rainn.org/). It is sometimes very hard to detect an abuser in a dating relationship. In fact, the signs of violence may not be very severe at first. Women must look out for men who lose their temper easily, drink, do drugs, are jealous, threatens them, or tried to control them (http://www.nau.edu/~fronske/rape.html). A woman needs to look out for a man who has ever hit her, slapped her, grabbed her, kicked her, or anything similar. If a woman's boyfriend or husband is physically or verbally abusive, then a woman needs to be very careful. These are just a few things to look out for.
Date rape can sometimes involve a "date rape" drug called Rohypnol, or other kinds of drugs. These drugs are odorless and tasteless and are most commonly slipped into someone's drink. Rohypnol produces a sedative effect, amnesia, muscle relaxation, and slowing of psychomotor responses. The pill kicks in 20-30 minutes after given and lasts for several hours (http://rainn.org/). Women need to be aware that these types of things are out there, and they need to be extra careful about what they drink. These drugs are usually used at parties or some kind of social gathering. If a woman chooses to drink at a party, she needs to keep an eye on her drink and only drink what she pours herself, and do not take a drink from anyone.
