Angel in Darkness

Man is neither angel or beast; and the misfortune is that he who would act the angel acts the beast.
Drugs and music today are usually used synonymously and with good reason. When most people hear of a famous musician dying, they typically think of a drug overdose first. Sarah McLachlan, when discussing her song "Angel- on the website aquezada.com, said that it "deals with why people in the limelight turn to drugs for solace."" There can be a message here for anyone, whether in the limelight or not, about drug use and its effects. In a broader sense "Angel- is about how drugs can make you feel free of your problems, but when the high is over, they are drawing you down and complicating your life even more. .
People often use drugs to escape from pain or problems in their lives. "I need some distraction oh beautiful release- is just one of the many lines that help you sense the pain that would pull you into drugs. It is saying just let us not feel this right now. We want to let go of the pain and the problems. "Let me be empty and weightless and maybe I'll find some peace tonight- repeats the same theme about letting the drugs make the pain go away, or helping you feel as though you can reach a peaceful place of rest. The desperation in this line makes it feel as though someone is down on his or her knees screaming for some relief, some end to the relentless onslaught of emptiness. The last lines of the song "You're in the arms of the Angel, May you find some comfort here- are repeated for emphasis as if to say this may be the only relief you will ever find or ever need and when you start to feel that way drugs can end up causing other problems.
According to her fan club website The Sea of Waking Dreams, McLachlan has had her share of problems, on aquezada.com she says, "We're all f "ed up in so many ways. I'm as f "ed up as the next person. I've been in that place where your so f "ed up and you're so lost that you don't know who you are anymore, and you're miserable "and here's this escape route.
