"Kennedy's Children"

It is hard to fully explain my reaction to this play. The acting was wonderful, the material was difficult, and it was not hard to empathize with the characters going through their situations. However, it was kind of hard trying to visualize what they were talking about because, I was not alive during the 60's or 70's. It was emotionally exhausting at times yet; still there were moments of sarcastic humor. I've never been to a play where there was so much dialogue and so little interaction between characters to produce conflict. .
The actors did an excellent job portraying these difficult characters. It is hard to believe that they were the same people that I see walking around campus now. Each one seemed to have spent countless hours studying the ins and outs of the characters. I know it had to be hard for them to play such roles for the same reason it was hard for me to visualize the time period. Still, they did not skip a beat and were very convincing; bringing their characters to a point that no written prose could fully capture.
The characters were filled with so much passion and emotions that it was not hard to empathize with them and almost get caught up in their lives. I found myself wanting to be in the jungle to see what Marc saw. I wanted to hold Rona as she went through her accounts of Kennedy. I became passionate and dispassionate for the marches. I could see these droves of Marylyn Monroe wannabe's getting suckered into false hope by men who will do anything for action. I felt sorrow for Sparger, no one should have had to endure what he went through. All of the characters touch a part of everyone just because I think all of us have known people like them just maybe not to the same extremes. It is like they were over-exaggerations of all the false and over zealous movements going on in the 60's. Not to say that they weren't all fighting for just causes, they just had no organization or focus.
