School Prayer

Do you believe school prayer should be allowed? Many people have different opinions on this subject. I believe the United States law on school and public prayer is a good and fair law because keeps matters fair for everyone. A lot of people are not aware of the law. They do not know what is allowed and what is not. There are many reasons why the law is how it is. Prayer clubs and youth groups can help students when struggling with tough times. Prayer is basically a good thing. Only when people do not believe in the same God or when people don't believe in a God at all is when a problem occurs. .
So, why can't school promote religion? The answer is simple, there is no one religion that everyone can agree with. Plus, some people do not have a religion or do not believe in a God at all. There is a concept of the separation of church and state. This means that the state cannot control a religion. It cannot force you to listen to prayers that you are not interested in. Prayer is only banned so that we will not go against the constitution. "The first amendment states that we have the freedom of religion so public prayer would violate that amendment. We do not all believe the same things. Restrictions are only there to protect your rights as well as my rights." (Kellie Snider, April 5 2000, retrieved Nov. 6th 2001, http://www.churchstaterelations.com/AchPrconstitutional.html) .
Prayer in school is allowed but, only to an extent. Many students and teacher are unaware of what the law permits them to do and not to do. It's not nearly as restricted as people think. Let's take a look at the rules.
"Students can read religious text, say prayers before meals and participate in non-disruptive activates. .
They many pray in informal settings (hallway, lunchroom, ect ) or talk about religion like they may talk about any other subject during school. No student can be forced to participate in any religious activity.
