U.S. Involvement in World Affairs

            Although I do not completely agree with the way that the United States handles certain world affairs, I am not against what the United States does. I believe that United States involvement during peacetime make us better prepared when and if there is a war because our locations in virtually every country in the world allows us to know what is going on in different parts of the country and always have a place for our military when we need to send them to different parts of the world. We did not become a world power by leaving countries alone when they either needed our help or we found that we could benefit ourselves as well as help the other country.
             For example, when European countries blockaded Venezuela because of a debt that Venezuela had with the European countries, the United States stepped in and paid the debt for Venezuela. The United States protected all countries within the western hemisphere and stepped in to help out Venezuela.
             Our idea of building the Panama Canal helps many countries get across to the Pacific Ocean from the Atlantic or vice versa a lot quicker than it would have been to sail around South America. Although the United States controls the Panama Canal and hence can control a lot of what gets shipped from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean but it has benefited a lot of countries. In recent history we have given the Panama Canal back to Panama.
             The United States does interfere with many world affairs because we consider ourselves the policemen of the world but it has not brought about many bad incidents but instead many good occurrences. We have helped developing countries become more developed. We have helped make the world more easily accessible with the Panama Canal. Conflicts were stopped because of our intervention and gigantic world wars have been ended. The United States have become a backbone for the world economy and we ensure that the world continues to function smoothly.
